Water Restrictions

By Kurt On January 10, 2009

Florida Water Restrictions 2009:

Florida is in an extreme drought and in the Tampa bay area water supplies have not returned to normal pre-drought conditions. At the present time reservoirs are near historical record lows and are currently providing little water to meet all public supply needs. If the Tampa bay area including the 16-county region does not receive above average rainfall for January-thru-March reservoirs may be depleted by April.

The Southwest Florida water management district (SWFW MD) just released the new modification on restrictions for watering lawns in the coming year 2009.

Restrictions For Established Lawns:

Watering One-Day-Per-Week is still in effect! Residents are required to check local Government (Extension Services) for their designated watering day.

Watering times for lawns is restricted to the hours before 8:00 AM. and after 6:00 PM.

Properties over 2-Acres may be watered into 2-sections on different days for each area. check your local Government (Extension Services) for the watering days allowed.

Restrictions for New and Replacement Lawns Including Sod,
Grass Plugs, and Other Turf-Grass:

Watering lawns for new construction and Replacement during the establishment period is allowed up to 30-Days total from day of installation.

On days 1-15 New and Replacement lawns may be watered every day of the of the week.

On days 16-30 New and Replacement lawns may be watered every other day unless specified by local ordinances. Even-Numbered addresses on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Odd-Numbered addresses on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Hours for watering are restricted to the hours before 8:00 AM. and after 6:00 PM.

Fountains and Waterfalls:

Time for usage of fountains and Waterfalls may be operated from 8-hours to only 4-hours per day.

Conclusion:

Water utilitiesand local enforcement of water restrictions are increasing their enforcement efforts. They are required to respond to citizen complaints and will issue citations without having to issue first a warning. They can audit your watering system and can take action based on the results of the audit. They are required to report all enforcement activity to (SWFMD) on a regular basis.

Water conservation is number one priority due to the continuous problem with water shortages and drought.
